The iPad. With its revolutionary, 9.7 inch touch screen, and amazing new apps, it does things no tablet PC, netbook, or e-reader could. Starts at $499. Sounds Incredible right? Well yesterday Apple announced there newest innovation, the iPad. Many have been waiting months for the announcement, and while many are excited about its for-coming, many were left disappointed. The talk of many tech sites for months have been over rumors about the ‘mysterious tablet’ from apple. Many of these rumors have left apple fans feeling disappointed and unimpressed. However, putting those opinions aside lets get into a review on just what went down yesterday.
So iPad at first glance seems like an XL ipod touch, but trust me it is a lot more then that. From first looks you can tell that the iPad runs an OS very similar to the iTouch and iPhone. The one difference you can notice however is the iPad has the ability to Change you Springboard wallpaper, a feature not available to non-jailbroken devices. Aside from that, the iPad runs a 1GHz Apple A4 custom-designed CPU. If anyone out there is aware of how fast the itouch is, the iPad should be about 40% faster, which is think is incredible for such a small device. Beside that the iPad also is quoted at a 10 hour battery life and over a month of standby time, which is truly incredible.

Apple has also rewritten all of the iPhone apps to make use of the bigger screen, while also releasing the new 3.2 SDK for developers. The new SDK will allow developers to make apps that are compatible for both versions of the OS. So you thinking now, what about the apps I have purchased for my iTouch/ iPhone, will those work? Yes, they will work right out of the box. Apple has made it so that any app previously made for the app store will be able to be run full screen or normal screen, using a technique called pixel doubling. With the new SDK out you can expect many new types of applications to hit the stores very quickly. Besides rewriting there own apps, they have also created iPad versions of there iWorks suite, and for $9.99 each, you can have you very own portable version of Keynote, Numbers, and Pages. I think these application will be a big hit for schools and offices in the attempt to have paperless offices.
